Yang For Young's Story Begins...
In August 2012, I came to England alone with the expectation of my mum - she always wanted me to gain more experience from studying in different countries. So she made a difficult decision which is to send her only child away (and here I am). In the last six years, I have learnt so much from the people, the culture and the different life style. I am so grateful that I have such an amazing mum who gave me the most memorable childhood and traditional family education. Besides, a good heart.
I have always been a creative and supportive person in my life. When I was in my university in China, I participated in various activities and social events. What I really enjoyed is to spend time with my friends and attending different social/cultural events. Working with others made me understand myself and the potential abilities. I received two awards for developing meaningful social projects. I am not only a designer, but also a maker, a creator and someone that believes in changes and transforming.
Roger Bateman, one of my MA design tutors at Sheffield Hallam University always says that 'doing good by design'. I strongly agree with him. This world does not need more good looking things, it needs designers/makers/innovators who believe that they are the life changers.

I have had a fullfilled university life. I was a faculty rep, a postgraduate students mentor and a student ambassador. By being different roles, I found that I'm in love with being a supportive person. I want to be more!

During my master studies, I was involved with many social projects including designing for dementia and being a socially responsible designer. I had an opportunity to understand what it is like for elderly people living with dementia. It was heartbreaking for me, I think it means even more broken for their families. Memory means so much for everyone especially for those who has lived for a long time. So I was working with another two designers on helping them 'bring back' their memories and recognise their family members. This project has taught me so much and made me think about people with less ability.
Trying to make elderly people feel more comfortable and accessible is as important as creating an inclusive future for children and young people. And I think by offering a complete and more engaging childhood to children would help them develop more personal skills while learning to understand the world. So, I chose to focus on sensory impaired children and young people for my final dissertation of my master studies. The very first thing came out of my mind is sight loss. I was in shock when I found out more information about sight loss. Those statistics urged me to do something. That's when I started developing Brailler (Read Brailler's story).
Yang For Young became a private limited company in March 2017. It is my first venture after saying goodbye to my university life. And I believe this won't be the last one.
