Yang For Young is set to launch yangBrailler, a new tactile teaching aid that provides an interactive way of learning braille for young people, after securing the £10,000 equity investment. yangBrailler gives non-sighted and sighted children the chance to learn braille while learning the letters of the alphabet.

The second version of yangBrailler has been trialling at a local infant school in Sheffield for a month. Today I was invited to visit the school and hear all about how this little girl used yangBrailler to help her learn Braille.
She is partially sighted and more likely to lose all the vision later :( she was such a bright and happy girl - children were having some outdoor activities when I got to the school, and she welcomed me with a warm smile. The teacher has been using yangBrailler a few times every week and said that she really enjoyed it. I was very lucky to be invited to observe their one-to-one braille learning session and finding out how it is been used at school and how I can improve and make it better! . As it was the first time for me to pitch on behalf of my own company in front of a panel of judges and dozens of audiences at Sheffield Hallam University. I was honored to pitch along with seven other fantastic businesses around Sheffield. A University of Sheffield graduate and the founder of Research Retold Mihaela became the winner of £25,000 investment from UK Steel Enterprise. It was a great surprise at the end that three other businesses were also offered £10,000 investment including myself, Jon from Reach Homes who has developed an affordable eco-housing scheme and Faye of Bearhugs offers a range of gift boxes designed to deliver all the warmth and comfort of a hug to families and friends. It was great to see how positive other people think about my business. Knowing that what I'm doing will make a difference to our society is what encourages me continue working on it. |
